Follmann gives us our first taste of its 2018 wallpaper calendar – a modern interpretation of the ornamental diversity of various peoples and cultures.

The traditional ornamentation of different peoples still sparks a wealth of ideas for modern wallpaper design. Using old characters, geometric shapes, floral patterns and historical symbols, the "Wallpaper competence" network has drawn its inspiration for the 2018 wallpaper calendar from the ornamentation of different cultures. As one of the seven network members, Follmann will be unveiling some initial motifs, prior to the official release of the calendar at Heimtextil 2018.

Ornamental diversity of the cultures is the motto of the 2018 wallpaper calendar. The aim of the calendar design was to offer a modern interpretation of the ornaments typical of individual peoples in earlier times using a range of elements and effects. This was a marvellous opportunity for all members of the "Wallpaper competence" network – which includes Follmann, Ahlstrom-Munksjö, Kämmerer, M-Design Rudolf Meyer, Saueressig, SPGPrints and Merck – to showcase their technologies and products.

Prior to the official release of the calendar, Follmann is presenting the following three motifs:

The February motif "Germania", the first motif of the 2018 Wallpaper Calendar, features a stag – a popular Germanic symbol that is frequently found in Palaeolithic cave drawings and is currently totally back on-trend. The stag is superimposed on runes, the early form of Germanic writing. A modern touch is added using texture printing inks to achieve a pleasing surface feel and special 3D effects, while the effect granules provide a wonderfully tactile texture effect and pronounced surfaces.

The April motif "Egyptian", with its beautiful patterns and half-tones, combines several typical Egyptian elements. The centrepiece is a female Pharaoh, cleverly embellished with ornamental elements, such as horizontal and vertical block stripes and zigzag patterns, and set against a backdrop of hieroglyphics, the characters of the oldest known Egyptian writing system, still found to this day on ancient temple and tomb walls. A transparent fleece coating further enhances the brilliant hues of this calendar motif.

The May motif "Mayan" features typical symbols, such as the solar disc, and was achieved with plastisol paste by screen printing. The amazing matt and gloss effects are accomplished using foams and compact systems, whereby the foams appear matt and the compact systems deliver the gloss effect. For a unique gloss effect was used an innovative new high-gloss gold (mirror gold) - a premium-quality effect ink, whose properties are unleashed through the use of special pigments.

If we have whet your appetite with these wonderful motifs and you are curious to see more, Follmann will be officially presenting the 2018 wallpaper calendar for the first time at Heimtextil from 9 to 12 January 2018 in Frankfurt – we look forward to welcoming you to Hall 3.1/Stand C38!
