For the third year running, Follmann will be exhibiting its wide range of products for the packaging industry at the FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany. From 25 to 27 September 2018, everything on Stand 8-319 in Hall 8 will revolve around printing inks, coatings and adhesives specially developed for packaging finishes.

As a leading trade fair in Europe for packaging, processes and technology, FachPack is an important platform for the family-owned, Minden-based and internationally operating company, providing it with an opportunity to showcase its products to the packaging industry and establish new contacts. “This year, we’re delighted to be presenting our water-based printing inks and low-migration adhesives, as well as our new water-based coatings for digital printing media which we added to our range this March,” says Daniel Bröking, Business Development Manager at Follmann.

Water-based printing inks for flexible packaging

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic – and the demand for Follmann's water-based printing ink systems is rising accordingly. Visitors to the trade fair can find out more at the company stand. Containing water as a substitute for solvent, they ensure a high level of colour quality and brilliance while still being significantly more environmentally friendly than conventional solvent systems. Another benefit of the inks, which have been specially developed for flexographic and gravure printing on pre-treated plastic films such as PE, PP, PET, PA and OPP, is that they are highly cost-effective. While thermal exhaust air cleaning (afterburning) is needed when using solvent-based inks, this disposal process is not required for water-based printing inks as they are thinned only with water. Another factor contributing to cost efficiency is the design of the ink series as a single-component solution, which means the ink can be used right away. For users, this results in shorter set-up times while guaranteeing colour fastness.

Low-migration, non-labelled adhesives

In addition to its water-based printing inks, Follmann will also use the trade fair to present its wide range of high-quality dispersion and hot-melt adhesives. Suitable for applications such as end-of-line packaging, crate construction, bonding of longitudinal seams, sheet lamination and many others, they are characterised by outstanding strengths and, in many cases, by significantly lower consumption levels in comparison with conventional products. One important benefit is that they are non-labelled. This means that the adhesives not only comply with the requirements of Germany's "Blue Angel" environmental label for coating systems, for example, but are also free from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).

Water-based coatings for digital printing media

For the first time, Follmann will also be bringing along ink-receiving layers for digital printing; these will enable companies to offer end customers personalised packaging solutions. The aqueous and ready-to-use coatings enable subsequent digital printing of numerous substrates such as films (PVC, PP, PE, PET), paper, textiles, wallpaper and canvas. They are suitable for various ink and paint systems, including water-based pigment and dye inks, latex inks, solvent inks and UV-curable inks. Squeegees and engraved rollers as well as Mayer bars and foulard can be used as application systems. The functional surface coatings ensure high-quality print designs and guarantee outstanding colour brilliance. Thanks to the impressive drying speeds, the media to be printed, e.g. packaging and labels can be quickly processed. If required, the coatings can also fulfil special properties like stringent UV stability, scratch-resistance and flame retardancy standards.
